Manchester City were welcomed by Sir Elton John at Manchester Airport after their FA Cup win at Wembley and it didn’t take long for them to burst into one of his iconic songs.
City staff, players and even manager Pep Guardiola himself sang along to Your Song – Sir Elton’s 1971 hit that features in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
City posted a video of the jubilant moment on Twitter with the song’s amended lyrics: “You can tell everybody, we’ve won the FA Cup!” as the caption after beating rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the final.
The clip shows Guardiola hugging the 76-year-old music icon, who then shouted “One more next week” in reference to the Champions League final where City have the chance to claim a historic Treble.
City also shared another video where some players who started in the FA Cup final, including Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker and Manuel Akanji, embraced Sir Elton.
Phil Foden, who came on as a second-half substitute, took a selfie with the multiple Grammy and Brit Award winner.
Guardiola had even managed to see Sir Elton in concert earlier in the week while some of the City team went to a Coldplay gig at their Etihad Stadium.
Sir Elton, who had been performing at Manchester’s AO arena, also shared his joy after bumping into the City team in an Instagram post.
