As a combat veteran, I appreciate and understand Rep. Jared Golden’s take on the initial vote of this year’s National Defense Authorization Act. Not only was it important that Golden voted for the tools and pay that our service members deserve, the bill also contains provisions that are much needed at Bath Iron Works and other businesses across Maine that provide great jobs for thousands of families in our state.
Most importantly, Golden refused to back down against the radical culture warriors who — in an example of the extremism that is tearing our country apart — took an opportunity to attach amendments unrelated to our nation’s security.
I think these provisions will never be included in the final bill and everyone knows it. I am glad Golden sees through the games played in Washington. We need more people like him serving in Congress.
