I’m spending a few weeks in my home state of Maine and couldn’t help notice a recent lead local story in the Bangor Daily News was about groups and organizations in the mud fighting to get their share of the “free money” that Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden and Congress have showered on states, cities and towns across the United States in response to COVID and upcoming elections. This mud wrestling is happening across the country.
What seems to be completely ignored or forgotten is all this booty being passed out is at the expense of our children and grandchildren. I am very supportive of firefighters but did not think the articles explained how COVID-19 hurt these employees enough to justify bonuses or a little something extra to help “morale.” Instead of borrowing and printing money that current voters will not pay for, shouldn’t all those in position to spend money look taxpayers in the eye and say we are going to raise taxes to cover this spending?
As a bonus to my visit, Biden made an appearance in Maine promoting his Bidenomics. The definition for “Bidenomics” is not in the dictionary as of yet so let me offer a meaning. I think it means “borrowing and spending money now to artificially make the economy look good prior to an election and letting our grandchildren worry about paying it back.” The time to pay the fiddler is fast approaching, and our grandchildren have not had the chance to dance.
