As a long time left-of-center independent voter, I am sure I would likely disagree with many of Leonard Leo’s opinions (“When is free speech protected,” in the Bangor Daily News on July 27). However, I do agree with his position that there are times when just because you can say something, it doesn’t mean you should.
I would call upon Leo to similarly stand up for the two election workers in Georgia (Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss) who Rudy Giuliani admits he made false claims of fraud against. Their lives were similarly affected by his actions, but he claims that his words are protected speech. And I would hope that Leo would call out others with similar claims of unfounded fraud.
