A longtime Thai restaurant in downtown Bangor is changing hands.
Wirawan Vivul, who for the past 12 years has operated Mama D at 128 Main St., and for more than 35 years has operated Thai restaurants in the Bangor area, announced on Tuesday that she would be retiring at the end of the month and that the business would be sold to new owners.
The Facebook post announcing the change did not specify who would be taking over the business, but did say that Vivul would be retiring on Aug. 20.
The post said that the restaurant anticipates a smooth transition and that the menu would not change.
Mama D opened in 2011, initially under the name Zen Asian Bistro, before changing to its current name a few years later. Prior to that, Vivul and her family ran Thai Siam at 1 Main St., which opened in 2003 and closed in 2014. It’s now the site of Umami Noodle Bar, owned by Vivul’s son, Jira Rustana.
