There is an organization, Washington County Retired Teachers Association, looking for new members to energize and continue its efforts to protect, preserve and enhance retirement benefits in Augusta. Membership dues offer support for area schools. Other stated goals are to identify members’ areas of concern and to offer educational speakers at monthly meetings.
Retired educational administrators, teachers, and support staff are all eligible to join. This is a local, county-wide, focused group, and you do not need to be a member of the MEA or NEA to join. This group meets on the third Thursday of each month, from April through October, at 11:30 a.m. at the Bluebird Restaurant in Machias for a Dutch treat lunch from the menu. Membership dues are $5 a year.
This September’s meeting on the 21st and will feature Abby Frutchey speaking about addiction and recovery.
