ARROWSIC, Maine — 11 people were injured after a walkway to an Arrowsic lighthouse collapsed on Saturday afternoon.
The collapse happened during Saturday’s Maine Open Lighthouse Day where folks are free to visit Maine’s lighthouses.
Bath Fire captain Ashley Moody says a group of people were walking along the platform leading to the Doubling Point Lighthouse when the walkway collapsed at around 1 p.m.
Five of the 11 people injured were sent to nearby hospitals.
The other six people were treated at the scene.
“Just heard a terribly loud cracking, and then collapsing sound, and then some screams, and everyone knew immediately what had happened,” said Alex Hill who witnessed the collapse.
