Belfast Flying Shoes will bring their special brand of contra dancing and contra music to the Strung Together Old Time & Bluegrass Music Campout at Searsport Shores. The musical weekend is hosted by the Makers Guild of Maine at Searsport Shores Ocean Campground, 216 West Main Street in Searsport, starting Friday, Sept. 15 through Sunday, Sept. 17.
Belfast musician, Willy Clemetson, grew up contra dancing and playing fiddle with his siblings. His bands Spintuition and SpringTide are favorites on the contra dance circuit. On Saturday at noon, Willy Clemetson will share some of what he’s learned about playing for dances, teaching a tune and some musical tips.
Local caller, Chrissy Fowler, will join Willy for a dinner dance starting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two Belfast neighbors will help folks do-si-do and swing on the new Searsport Shores dance floor, just before the evening coffee house.
A host of other contra dance mainstays are among the weekend performers and participants, including the musicians in the Montville Project, Bluebird, SeaStrings, and the Belfast Bay Fiddlers.
Come for the tunes, come for the dancing! Dancers for Saturday evening can register in advance or pay on arrival. Info: https://makersguildmaine.org/strung-together/
