Training begins Sept. 19
BANGOR — Volunteer tutors are needed. Every day, Literacy Volunteers of Bangor hears from adults who want to be able to read, write, and/or speak and understand English better. Their requests are urgent. In many ways, their lives depend on it since better literacy affords a higher standard of living, access to better information to make decisions, and a sense of belonging–all things we value.
Literacy Volunteers tutors help adult students develop these skills, while feeling great knowing that they are helping another on such a fundamental level.
Tutor training begins in September with an information session on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 6–8 p.m., followed by four additional Tuesday evening classes. The training schedule with times and dates, the registration link, and additional information about volunteering.
All sessions take place at Brewer Community Center. A contribution of $35 helps defray the costs of the textbook and materials. Scholarships are also available.
