An 18-year-old man has died in a motorcycle crash after being pursued by police in London.
The Metropolitan Police said the motorbike was involved in a collision with a taxi and “street furniture” on Tottenham Court Road, close to Warren Street Tube station.
A 17-year-old pillion passenger on the motorbike suffered arm and leg injuries, described as “non life-threatening”. He was arrested after being found with a machete, the force added.
The fatal incident happened after two officers on marked police motorcycles “became aware of a motorcycle travelling through a red light on Oxford Street” at about 6.45am on Monday.
Officers provided first aid to the driver of the motorbike before the arrival of paramedics.
Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
