A Bangor man is accused of setting a fire near the Paradis Shop ‘n Save in Brewer on Sept. 22.
A wooden bench in front of the store was ablaze when Brewer first responders arrived at the store at around 1:30 a.m. that Friday, according to Maine Department of Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
An investigation identified 34-year-old Brendan McCourtney on a surveillance recording setting fire to a stack of newspapers near the bench outside the store entrance, according to Moss. The state fire marshal’s office determined the fire was the result of arson.
McCourtney has been charged with arson and criminal mischief, and will make an appearance in Bangor District Court on Dec. 7.
