Clubhouse Artists will be displaying and selling their art #Artworks
BANGOR – #Artworks, an art event to showcase the artwork of Clubhouse Colleagues will be held Oct. 10, World Mental Health Day, from 4-6 p.m. at the Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse located at 30 Summer Street. The theme of 2023’s World Mental Health Day, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is “Mental health is a universal human right.”
For over 70 years, the Foundation has been working to make sure that mental health is treated equally with physical health. Mental health problems exist in our lives, families, workplaces, and communities, affecting everyone.. We will continue to call on national and local governments to prioritize reducing the factors known to pose a risk to people’s mental health, enhancing those known to protect it and creating the conditions needed for people to thrive.
World Mental Health Day is also a chance to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.
“Many people in our area are affected by barriers to employment and could use some support developing life skills. Our Clubhouse is a unique place where members not only learn to work through their challenges, but they learn to live independent lives and how to navigate resources. These services are desperately needed, and we are proud to serve people living with mental illnesses in our community.” said Lori Dwyer, president and CEO of PCHC.
#Artworks is a new event to showcase the artwork of colleagues of Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse, a program that fosters a community that focuses on helping adults with mental illness to live vocationally meaningful and socially satisfying lives. The Clubhouse completes this through helping members return to work and school, live independently, and develop a social support network. In this collaborative, restorative environment, members gain access to opportunities to join the worlds of friendships, family, community, employment and education, and to the services and support they may need. The evening will include showcasing multimedia art work completed by Clubhouse members. Some of this artwork will be for sale and the proceeds will go directly to the artist. The following is a first-hand account regarding Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse from one of its members, “For so many years, I was merely existing. Plagued by a number of chronic illnesses along with depression that seldom lifted, I found myself very isolated for five long years. My health was deteriorating. I had next to no self-confidence or self-worth. I decided to take a risk and finally walked through the doors of Clubhouse. I started attending for 40 hours a week just to keep myself out of trouble. What did that lead to? I started learning a ton of job skills! I worked side by side with my peers and felt a part of a community! I started working on my overall wellness, paying close attention to my nutrition and physical activity! I felt welcome from day one and valued immediately. I was surrounded by positive influences who taught me how to see my worth. I started setting goals: lots of them! Today, just over a year into this journey, I am physically in the best shape of my adult life. I have returned to college full-time and I am working two different part-time jobs. Clubhouse has helped me to build my confidence and enabled me to look in the mirror and know I have created a life for myself that is full of surprises and new adventures, and one that I look forward to living each day that I wake up!”
