BANGOR — In October 2022, St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor marked their 75th anniversary by burying a time capsule outside the hospital entrance. Inside, handwritten notes, photos, pieces of technology and a Barbie doll dressed in full personal protective equipment, or PPE, will provide a look back in time to those who will open the capsule in 2047 for the hospital’s centennial celebration.
This October, Mary Prybylo, MSN, RN, president of St. Joseph Healthcare, Sister Mary Edith St. Jean, Sister Barbara Martis, RN, BSN, cultural and heritage historian, and others came together for a touching reflection and prayer at the blessing of the 75th anniversary time capsule marker.
“St. Joseph Hospital has stood tall and proud in our community for 75 years,” said Prybylo. “It is our hope that on the 100th anniversary, the earth below this marker will be opened, the contents of the time capsule reviewed and people will find St. Joe’s remaining tall and erect, a pillar in the community – and they too will say: Life was AND IS good; St. Joe’s has left its mark on me.”
