Election Day is quickly approaching. Bangor residents, please join me in supporting Timothy Surrette for another term on the Bangor School Committee. I have had the privilege of knowing Surrette for 15 years — first as a co-worker when we were part of the administrative team at the Libby School in Milford, and then later in Bangor when I was the principal of the Vine Street School and Tim served on the Bangor School Committee.
I can tell you firsthand that Surrette cares passionately about the education of students. As the father of young children, he is personally invested in ensuring that the Bangor School Department continues to achieve at high levels of excellence. As a former teacher, Surrette is an unwavering supporter of our educators. He strives to provide them the resources they need to maintain an environment for success. Through his experiences, Surrette knows the challenges in our schools today.
He is committed to finding innovative ways to help students make gains after losing academic time during COVID-19. He understands that our students are facing challenges that differ significantly from those who attended school even a decade ago. Social-emotional needs, mental health challenges, food and home insecurities and medical issues are prevalent in our schools. Tim actively supports recruiting high-quality social workers, school counselors, school psychologists and school nurses to support our students.
A vote for Surrette is a vote for students and high-quality schools. Please vote for Surrette on Nov. 7.
