The Somerset County Jail is paying more than $133,000 in overtime back wages due to 142 correctional officers after violating federal labor laws.
Jail administrators came to an agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor.
This comes after a federal judge ruled the jail violated the federal Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act.
Between 2017 and 2019, the jail reportedly failed to pay time and a half wages to correctional officers who were working more than 40 hours a week and handling federal inmates.
As part of the agreement, the amount of overtime worked by the officers and how the money will be divided among them will not be disclosed.
