SCARBOORUGH, Maine — One person is dead after a car veered off Payne Road in Scarborough Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after noon, Scarborough officials got a 911 call from a driver on I-95.
The driver said a car struck them on the highway while speeding. Police say the suspected vehicle then got off exit 42, struck the guardrail several times, and took a right onto Payne Road.
The 911 caller was able to follow the vehicle and reportedly saw them veer off the road and strike a rock and utility pole. Police say the female driver died at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation.
