BANGOR — It’s comedy meets whimsy at Husson University’s Black Box Theatre this weekend as two feuding narrators weave together 209 stories in an incredible, creative theater production.
The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon by Don Zolidis will be performed by Husson University’s theater group on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 3 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre inside The Gracie Theatre on Husson’s campus in Bangor.
With an ensemble cast, the comedic production is a new take on the original Brothers Grimm tales that attempts to present the stories as originally intended, while delving into the origins of well-known characters and incorporating lesser known ones.
“The main theme of this show is creativity and fun. The cast is encouraged to explore the comedy of the show and create a play they can be proud of. They have the freedom to be weird and silly and it works,” said Tucker Whelan, a first-year Husson student and the show’s director.
Husson University Theatre is an entirely student-run organization. The cast features 13 students: Emily Parent, Nex Staples, Caroline Beckwith, Eliza Pitman, Sam Johnson, Evan Strong, Collin Peterson, Avery Farrington, Avery Getchell, Kailyn Minoty, Makenzie Wade, Juliet Stoneton, and Hannah Body. Crew members include: Tucker Whelan, Grace Hengel, Connor Powell, Bailey Arruda, Emily Akers, and Aidan O’Farrell. Six students are also serving as crew for the production.
Tickets will be available for purchase at the door one hour prior to each performance and seating is limited. Tickets are $5 for the general public and free for Husson students. More information about the show can be found on the Husson University Theatre Instagram page.
