There is growing concern among scientists about the amount of sewage in Casco Bay caused by this summer’s heavy rainfall.
This year’s overflow of summer rain has added to sewer overflow, a mixture of sewage and storm water, that is draining into the bay, according to Maine Public.
Friends of Casco Bay said Casco Bay saw more than 250 million gallons of mixed storm water and sewage, compared with the 70 million gallons seen between January and August of last year.
Friends of Casco Bay also has noticed the bay’s water temperature has increased by 3 degrees Fahrenheit since the group started monitoring the bay three decades ago.
