A taxi driver was assaulted early Tuesday morning at the University of Maine in Orono.
The taxi driver was dropping off a customer at the UMaine campus about 12:45 a.m. when the man allegedly refused to pay the fare and ran off, according to the University of Maine Police Department.
The taxi driver pursued the man, who allegedly punched the driver in the face and then displayed a knife.
The driver then left the area, the UMaine Police Department said.
The suspect was described as a shorter Black man who was dressed in a black hoodie and pants, wearing white sneakers and carrying a black suitcase.
UMaine police said there is no threat to the public, calling it an “isolated incident,” but urged anyone on campus to be cautious of their surroundings.
