Police have launched an investigation into the “unexplained” death of a woman whose body was recovered from a river in East Ayrshire.
Officers were called to a report of a person in the river in Newmilns at around 11.25am on Wednesday.
Emergency services also attended and a 39-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Her next of kin have been made aware.
“The death is being treated as unexplained at this time and enquiries are continuing.”
