Bournemouth’s Premier League game with Luton has been called off after the away side’s captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch.
Luton boss Rob Edwards took his players off the pitch at the Vitality Stadium and the game was suspended before being called off a short while later.
Lockyer, 29, previously collapsed in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final earlier this year.
Luton’s official social media account wrote: “We are all with you, Locks”.
Sky Sports said in its match blog at 4.35pm: “Lockyer is down for Luton and there is significant worry from all the players. The medics are onto the pitch.
“The paramedics are on to help the Luton player. The players have left the field. This is a really worrying situation. There is a hush around the ground.”
At 4.35pm, Sky Sports commentator, Gary Taphouse, said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Bournemouth’s doctor had confirmed that Lockyer, the Luton captain, was “alert and responsive”.
Seven minutes later, the account posted: “It’s been almost 20 minutes since the game was halted due to the worrying injury sustained to Lockyer. The players remain in the dressing rooms. No word as yet whether the game will continue.”
At 4.48, it confirmed the match had been called off.
