I am writing to express my deep appreciation for and admiration of the courageous stance taken by our secretary of state, Shenna Bellows, to remove Donald Trump from the Maine ballot.
She could have easily punted on that difficult decision, which has led to vicious and shameful attacks on her integrity and honor and threats against her life and limb.
Given the undisputed facts of Trump’s efforts to overthrow the results of the 2020 election and his incitement of the Jan. 6 insurrection (amply documented by others across the nation), I think Bellows made the right decision. She is an example to us all — I only wish leaders in other states would have her courage and integrity. We Mainers are proud of our secretary of state and very grateful for her honorable service to the state.
