A driver was rescued Wednesday morning after floodwaters swept them into a Cape Elizabeth marsh.
The driver, whose identity wasn’t released, was on Sawyer Marsh Road, near the Scarborough town line, about 9:43 a.m. when they attempted to go through standing water and their vehicle was swept into the marsh, according to Cape Elizabeth Fire and Rescue.
The car floated through the marsh, and the driver was unable to get out.
Rescuers from the Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough fire departments paddled out to the driver. They successfully removed them from the vehicle and brought the driver back to dry land.
“The vehicle will be removed from the marsh as soon as it is safe to do so — as the tide goes back out,” Cape Elizabeth Fire and Rescue said.
