Former University of Maine All-American goalie Jeremy Swayman will play in his first National Hockey League All-Star game on Feb. 3 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
The Boston Bruins netminder was one of 12 players selected for the game by the 2024 NHL All-Star Fan Vote.
His head coach, UMaine Sports Hall of Famer and former All-American Jim Montgomery, has been selected to coach the Atlantic Division team for the second straight year.
Swayman has compiled a 12-3-7 record and a 2.49 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. His save percentage is ninth best in the league while his GAA is 11th. He has recorded two shutouts.
The 25-year-old Anchorage, Alaska, native, who was a Hobey Baker Award finalist and recipient of the Mike Richter Award given to the nation’s top goalie in his third and final season at UMaine (2019-20), has a career record of 66-26-14 with a 2.29 GAA and .920 save percentage in his career with Bruins.
At UMaine, he went 47-40-12 with a 2.51 GAA and a .927 save percentage. In his final season, he was 18-11-5 with a 2.07 GAA and .939 save percentage.
He was named the Hockey East Player of the Year.
Under the All-Star selection process, the head coach of the teams with the highest points percentage in each of the four divisions were selected. Montgomery has led the Bruins to a 25-8-9 record through 42 games this season.
He is in his second season as head coach of the Bruins. In 2022-23, Montgomery guided the Bruins to the Presidents’ Trophy for the best overall regular season record (65-12-5) and was named the Jack Adams Award winner as the NHL coach of the year.
During the NHL All-Star weekend there will be several skills competitions followed by the game, which will consist of four 11-player teams (nine skaters and two goalies).
