After a very stormy stretch, quieter, more typical January weather is in store for Maine this week.
A quiet MLK Monday will give way to widespread accumulating light snow on Tuesday.
Snow moves in late Monday night into early Tuesday, likely beginning between 3 and 7 a.m. for most.
Light to moderate snow will continue all day on Tuesday.
Snow will likely be the heaviest from late morning through the early evening. No one region looks to see dramatically higher totals than anywhere else, so 3 to 6 inches looks likely for most of the state.
The best chance for some higher totals would be toward Down East Maine as the storm will be strengthening there as it pulls away.
This snow also will be very light and fluffy so totals could end up on the higher end of the expected range.
Snow wraps up Tuesday evening, and we clear out Wednesday.
Arctic air and mostly quiet conditions look to be in store for the rest of the week.
Wednesday through Friday will see highs in the 20s. Clouds will increase through the end of the week, and a storm will pass to the south Friday morning into the night.
As of now, it looks like snow will stay to the south. Minor snow accumulation for southern Maine can’t be ruled out right now.
After Friday, even colder air moves in for the weekend. Highs will drop into the teens and lows will struggle to stay above the negative.
