An anonymous Bangor High School student has donated $7,500 to the school to buy shoes for students in need.
The donation came from the student’s online business, Sneaks and Deals LLC, which he started in January 2021, according to Ray Phinney, spokesperson for the Bangor School Department.
Through his company, the student tracks market trends and purchases sneakers he believes will be valuable in the future and then resells them online, according to Phinney.
The student asked that his donation be used to buy shoes for students lacking appropriate footwear.
“The $7,500 will go a long way toward supporting families who need help buying suitable footwear for their students, and the donor was really happy that the gift will be used in a way that so strongly matches the work of his company,” Phinney said.
Bangor High School Principal Paul Butler announced the donation during a school board meeting on Wednesday.
The money will be available to school staff who identify and work with students in need. From there, the department hopes to partner with local shoe stores to create a voucher system that gives students streamlined options, Phinney said. This will allow families to choose the size and style that meets their needs.
“We’re really proud of this student and appreciate his decision to give to others in such a meaningful way,” Phinney said.
