NEW SWEDEN, Maine — A 33-year-old Massachusetts man died Jan. 19 after a snowmobile crash.
Shaun Lindmark of Billerica, Massachusetts, was driving south on a 2019 Ski-Doo Freestyle 850 on ITS 183 in New Sweden around 10 p.m. when he veered off the right side of the trail and into several trees.
Lindmark died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet, according to Mark Latti, a spokesperson for the Maine Warden Service.
Lindmark had been snowmobiling with four friends in Aroostook County, said Ryan O’Connell, Lindmark’s brother-in-law, who has set up a GoFundMe page for his sister Courtney Lindmark.
Shaun and Courtney Lindmark’s first child will be born in June, O’Connell wrote on the page. As of Thursday, O’Connell’s fundraiser had brought in more than $133,000 toward his $150,000 goal.
Speed was likely a factor in the crash, according to Latti.
