Northern Light Health took its patient records system offline after it discovered its servers were compromised on Saturday afternoon.
The affected servers didn’t contain patient information, but Northern Light Health made the decision to take the patient records systems offline and use downtime procedures in order to investigate and make repairs to the servers.
Northern Light Health also said that patient care was not affected by these downtime procedures and all hospitals remained open.
Northern Light Health said that a lot of misinformation has circulated around this compromise and that much of the information going around is incorrect. It reiterated that there’s no reason to believe that any patient information has been compromised.
Northern Light Health also has not been contacted by a third party and that there’s no indication that any of the information is being held for ransom. Northern Light Health said it has full control of its HVAC and security systems and took all sensitive information systems offline, including electronic health records out of an abundance of caution.
The incident has been reported to the authorities as well.
Northern Light Health will share more information with patients, staff and the public when it becomes available.
