SACO, Maine – A shelter in place warning remains in place in Saco following a shooting and a car crash on Friday.
Around 11:57 a.m., police received a call regarding shots fired between two vehicles at the intersection of Elm and Temple Streets in Saco, according to Chief Jack Clements.
Investigators say it’s not clear at the time if people in both vehicles fired shots.
Immediately after shots were fired, one of the vehicles involved crashed, striking a school bus at the intersection of North Street and Elm Street.
The Old Orchard school bus reportedly had students in it at the time of the crash. No student injuries were reported as of Friday afternoon.
Police believe that four people fled the crash site, and are conducting a search of the area after a handgun was found in the crashed car. Investigators believe that at least one of the people who fled the area is injured.
Saco schools were in lockdown and all after school activities have been canceled. Roads in the area from Thornton Academy to Biddeford line remain shut down.
