A passenger van and an SUV going opposite directions on the Arnold Trail Road in Eustis collided Saturday morning, critically injuring two of the van’s passengers, according to police.
Luis Mayancela-Yunga, 28, of Biddeford was driving a 2010 Silver GMC passenger van with four other passengers when at around 9:10 a.m. he lost control of the van and started skidding sideways on the roadway, according to Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss. A 2016 black Toyota SUV driven by 26-year-old Jean-Francois Brassard of Sherbrooke, Quebec, was traveling northbound and collided with the van in the northbound lane.
Both drivers were not hurt, but two passengers in the van were transported to local hospitals with critical injuries, Moss said. Both are expected to survive.
Brassard was wearing his seatbelt, but all five occupants in the van were not. Speed and road conditions are considered factors in the crash according to Moss. Police shut down the road for several hours.
Maine State Police was assisted by Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Border Patrol and local fire and rescue.
Anybody with information about the crash is encouraged to contact state police at 207-624-7076.
