PORTLAND — As part of its longstanding commitment to supporting economic opportunity and local communities, Bank of America invested $918,000 across Maine in 2023 through philanthropic grants, loans, and sponsorships. The support is helping Maine thrive with a particular focus on food insecurity and affordable housing.
In 2023, Bank of America extended its support to various Maine organizations, including Avesta Housing and Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine. In November, Bank of America supported the Avesta HomeOwnership Center’s homebuyer education classes and financial stability counseling, while in May, bolstered Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine’s statewide hunger relief programming.
“Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine is proud to continue our partnership with Bank of America, working hand in hand to create a hunger-free Maine,” said Georgia Jenkins, corporate and foundation relations officer for Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine. “Our state has one of the highest rates of hunger in New England and we are hearing of more and more Mainers who are having trouble due to rising costs, a reduction in SNAP benefits, and other impactful economic factors. Together, we can make a lasting impact in the fight to end hunger.”
Avesta HomeOwnership Center Director Nicole DiGeronimo said “The homebuying process can be complicated and confusing, and the housing shortage makes it even more so. In this environment, the need for financial counseling and education is even more imperative. Bank of America’s gift helped us provide these essential services to more than 500 people last year, giving them the knowledge to make informed, confident decisions.”
In addition to philanthropic grants, Bank of America teammates in Maine demonstrated their commitment to community well-being by contributing almost 29,000 hours of their time in 2023. Their involvement extended to various nonprofits and community-based organizations, notably focusing on veterans. This included hosting a luncheon for Wreaths Across America as the convoy made its way to Arlington National Cemetery and teammates uniting in Belfast as the Knit Wits to craft and donate items to local veteran organizations across state.
“Local nonprofit organizations understand the obstacles Mainers face, positioning them to develop the solutions and services needed to promote economic opportunity,” said Brian King, president Bank of America Maine. “Bank of America is committed to partnering with local leaders and organizations to support homeownership and veterans, deliver basic needs and create opportunities to help people succeed today and in the future.”
