There are a lot of scams out there. We must be careful. A Bangor resident was scammed out of $9,000 by someone they thought was a Bangor police officer.
I was called by a company saying that Capital One had an allegation against me for fraud and lack of payment for eight years. They wanted me to pay them either $1,500 or $530 to take care of the allegation. If I didn’t then I would be taken to court and pay a lot more money.
I called my brother who happens to be a retired lawyer and he told me to call Consumer Credit. I did and found out that it was a scam.
Please people be aware of such scams. If you get a phone call from an organization or a person representing a business or charity don’t give them any money before you check out whether it’s a real person representing a business or charity. These scammers have all the right answers. Be safe.
