A man and woman have been accused of kidnapping and robbing another woman at the Brunswick Walmart in January.
Katelynn McLaughlin, 30, of Portland has been charged with kidnapping, robbery, aggravated reckless conduct, criminal conspiracy, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and theft by unauthorized taking. Emmanual Hurtado, 33, of Augusta has been charged with kidnapping, robbery, aggravated reckless conduct, criminal conspiracy, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by prohibited person, violation of conditions of release and theft by unauthorized taking, according to Brunswick Police Chief Scott Stewart.
Additional charges are anticipated.
The victim was in her parked vehicle about 11:27 a.m. on Jan. 24 outside Walmart at Cook’s Corner, where she was waiting for McLaughlin, an acquaintance, to arrive, Stewart said Friday morning.
When McLaughlin arrived and got into the victim’s vehicle, she was joined by Hurtado, who allegedly pointed a gun at her and ordered her to drive.
The three drove for about 20 minutes before they stopped and Hurtado left, according to Stewart.
Massachusetts State Police arrested Hurtado, who had three loaded guns on him and two bulletproof vests. He faces additional charges in Massachusetts, where he remains in the Middlesex Jail and House of Corrections.
McLaughlin is being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.
The kidnapping and robbery remains under investigation.
