I live in Blue Hill. I ran our sewage treatment plant from the year 2000 to 2017 when I retired. This vital piece of infrastructure is now threatened by sea level rise. There are several other sewage treatment plants in our state that are also facing millions of dollars in upgrades to cope with sea level rise. Let’s do the right thing and reduce our transportation carbon footprint as much as we can!
I own an electric car and my wife does too. We love them and we both feel we need to make this transition as quickly as possible. As Maine’s largest source of climate pollution, we can’t address climate change without tackling pollution from cars and trucks. The Advanced Clean Cars II standards currently being considered by the state would cut our climate pollution from transportation significantly while bringing in a greater selection of zero-emission vehicles for Maine drivers every year. This is exactly the kind of policy that will put Maine on the right path toward addressing climate change.
We need to move forward on this program to get more electric cars to Maine people. People can save money on gas and maintenance, and the driving experience is just as good as a gas-powered car. And, they won’t be burning fossil fuels that cause climate change. Join me in supporting this important program for Maine.
