The Class B indoor track state championships took place on Monday night at Bates College in Lewiston, with the York girls team repeating as state champions, and the Greely boys team winning its first state title since 2018.
In the boys division, the Rangers won only one event — the 4×200 meter relay — yet tallied the most total points overall (72), beating out York (64) and Leavitt Area (46). In the girls division, York’s distance runners guided the Wildcats (63 points) past Greely (53), with Bucksport (47), and Old Town’s (34 points; sixth place) underclassmen also turning heads.
York senior Cary Drake led all individual girls scorers with 26 points, setting a state meet record in the one-mile (4:59.1) and placing second in both the 800-meter (2:19.8) and two-mile (11:32.3) runs. Accompanying Drake on the podium were teammates Molly Kenealy (senior; third in one-mile and two-mile runs), Zoe Carroll (sophomore; third in 800-meter run) and sophomore Madelyn Hutchins (sophomore; fourth in one-mile and two-mile runs).
Winning the two-mile with a time of 10:56.8, and finishing runner-up in the one-mile (5:03.5) was junior Teanne Ewings of Houlton, scoring 18 points as an independent. Mount Desert Island junior Amelia Vandongen meanwhile won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.8.
In the sprinting events, sophomores Haley and Madison Rose of Bucksport tallied 13 total points in the 55-meter dash, 16 total points in the 200-meter dash, and marshaled the Golden Bucks to gold in the 4×200-meter relays.
In the field, Old Town freshman Lucy Veilluex won both the triple jump (34 feet, 3 inches) and long jump (17 feet, 1.5 inches), and sophomore teammate Elyannah Briggs won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches. These three gold medal finishes accounted for 30 of the Coyotes’ 34 total points.

Burr also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash, tallying 24 total points for the Trojans.
