A Bath woman was rescued Saturday after she injured her leg while descending Mount Avalon in New Hampshire.
Cassandra Haskell, 37, was using a small sled to assist her down a steep section of trail just below the summit of Mount Avalon about 2:50 p.m. when she lost control and hit a tree, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.
During the fall, she suffered a lower leg injury and was unable to move on her own.
A friend stayed with her while other hikers reached out for help and provided her with extra clothes to stay warm.
Rescuers reached Haskell about 5:30 p.m. She was loaded into a rescue sled and brought down to the trailhead about 7:15 p.m. Haskell was taken to Littleton Regional Healthcare to be treated for her injuries.
Mount Avalon is a 3,442-foot summit in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. It is southwest of Mount Washington, near Bretton Woods.
