TOPSHAM — Norway Savings Bank is pleased to announce the continuation of its partnership with statewide land conservation organization Maine Coast Heritage Trust and the Maine Land Trust Network, a program of MCHT.
In recent years, Norway Savings Bank has donated over $50,000 to MCHT in recognition of the organization’s dedication to serving Maine’s coastal communities.
“The work that Maine Coast Heritage Trust does to ensure Maine’s coast stays healthy and vibrant is beyond measure,” said Dan Walsh, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “For over 50 years, MCHT has made an extraordinary impact and we are proud to be a small part of helping it succeed.”
“Thanks to donations like those from Norway Savings Bank, we are increasing people’s access to the coast, protecting wildlife habitat, and building the coast’s resilience to climate change,” said Nicky Blanchard, director of engagement for Maine Coast Heritage Trust.
Through its efforts, MCHT works to mitigate the impacts of climate change by protecting and restoring salt marshes and coastal rivers; protecting vulnerable plants and animals by conserving habitats and through thoughtful land stewardship; expanding access to the coast by creating preserves for people to explore, preserving traditional access sites to the working waterfront, building boat launches, and offering events and programs aimed at getting people outside; and serving coastal communities by working collaboratively to protect special places and finding creating solutions to community problems.
As part of its contribution, Norway Savings Bank will sponsor the 2024 Maine Land Conservation Conference, hosted by MCHT and the MLTN on April 12-13 in Topsham. The conference, which is expected to sell out quickly, has proven to be an important opportunity for Maine’s conservation community to gather, share best practices, and organize.
“The work of MCHT and MLTN aligns with the Bank’s clear commitment to caring for this special place we live in,” said Angela Twitchell, Land Trust Program Director at MCHT. “The conference is in its 40th year and brings together land trusts, natural resource professionals, and Maine people who want to explore the most pressing issues facing land conservation.”
Assisting in the promotion of camaraderie and community among individuals and programs performing the crucial service of protecting Maine’s coast is an honor for Norway Savings Bank.
“People are inspired, renewed, and changed for the better when they experience the timeless beauty offered by Maine’s outdoors,” said Walsh. “They are special places to be explored today and protected for tomorrow.”
