BELFAST — Local participatory arts nonprofit, Belfast Flying Shoes was recently awarded a $7,500 competitive grant from the Maine Arts Commision to support organization operations in FY2024.
“This funding from the MAC is a boon for Flying Shoes,” said Chrissy Fowler, executive director of BFS. “We’re proud of the array of music and dance programs we produce here in Waldo County and beyond, and this award helps us fulfill our mission. It’s also enormously validating!”
All are welcome to let their shoes fly at BFS happenings, including these events on our March calendar: the popular First Friday Community + Contra Dances, a workshop for early childhood educators in Standish, dancing at Project Connect’s St. Patrick’s Sober Party, a special dance at the Rockport Opera House, and folk dancing from Armenia and Eastern Europe.
Belfast Flying Shoes has been building community through music and dance since 2005. Core BFS programs include a radio show on WBFY, school residencies, programs for older adults and residents at the Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center, and a monthly dance series.
