AUGUSTA, Maine – The Brunswick High School girls basketball team used a suffocating defense to defeat Cony of Augusta 54-30 and capture their first state championship at the Augusta Civic Center Saturday.
The Class A South champion Dragons blew the game open by outscoring Cony 17-2 in the second quarter behind 8 points from star forward Dakota Shipley, who finished with a game-high 21 points. Brunswick cruised from there, leading 48-17 after three quarters.
The Dragons finished with a 20-2 record.
Cony was led by Morgan Cunningham’s 17 points. The Rams finished the season with a 14-8 record.
