Two Bangor High School hockey players are among the seven semifinalists for the Travis Roy Award given to the state’s best Class A senior.
Ram left wingers Miles Randall and Jackson Guimond are joined on the list by Lewiston’s Dylan Blue, St. Dominic Academy of Lewiston’s Timothee Ouellette, Portland/South Portland/Deering Waynflete’s Tobey Lappin, Marshwood/Noble/Traip Academy/Sanford’s Ayden Lockard and Lake Region/Oxford Hills/Fryeburg Academy’s Kadan Neureuther.
Guimond has played both left wing and defense for the Rams. He is used on defense on the power play and penalty kill. He had four goals and nine assists in 15 regular season games.
“He has been a multi-use guy for us,” said Bangor coach Quinn Paradis. “He is a very good skater and a strong kid. We play him as the third guy high in the offensive zone. He’s kind of a third defenseman for us.”
Randall was Bangor’s leading scorer during the regular season with 20 points on seven goals and a team-best 13 assists. He had two shorthanded goals.
“He is tall, very strong and has a very hard shot,” said Paradis.
Neurether led his team in goals (20), assists (19) and points (39). He had four shorthanded goals and four shorthanded assists along with three power play goals.
Ouellette paced his team in scoring with 36 points on a team-best 22 assists along with 14 goals. He had three shorthanded goals.
Blue’s 13 goals and 22 points were tops on his team; Lockard’s 23 goals and 32 points powered his Marshwood co-op team team and he had seven power play goals and Lappin led the Beacons in goals (16), assists (12) and points (28).
The finalists will be announced after Wednesday’s Class A semifinal games and the winner will be revealed at the Class A hockey banquet in Brunswick on March 16.
The award is named after the late Travis Roy from Yarmouth, a hockey player who was paralyzed from the neck down when he fell awkwardly into the boards on his first shift for Boston University.
He eventually became a world-renowned motivational speaker and a fund-raiser for those who suffered spinal cord injuries.
