The Brunswick Town Council is cracking down on racist public comment remarks with new guidelines.
According to The Times Record, these newly approved guidelines are designed to restrict and provide consequences for hateful speech during meetings.
The change follows a February “Zoom-bombing incident,” where several unidentified Zoom attendees used racist rhetoric while describing asylum-seekers in the area.
In future meetings, attendees who use such language risk losing their chance to comment and may be removed from the meeting.
The Town Council is also considering a zoom registration system to prevent anonymous users from signing up for comments.
