A registered nurse from Auburn is now the latest Mainer to admit to crimes committed during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
According to the Sun Journal, 59-year-old Kimberly Sylvester appeared in court on Thursday, pleading guilty to charges of disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in any of the Capitol buildings.
Each charge is punishable by up to six months in prison.
According to court documents, Sylvester was tracked down through her cellphone number and later admitted to authorities that she was in the building Jan. 6. She was also seen on surveillance video from inside the Capitol building.
According to Sylvester, she entered the Capitol building through a door that was already open. Surveillance images show Sylvester walking through various rooms.
Sylvester told the FBI she saw a group of people pushing and shoving on a door, and that’s when she realized she should not be in the U.S. Capitol Building, according to court documents.
According to court documents, she found a U.S. Capitol Police Officer and stated she wanted to get out. The officer then helped her out through a staircase that led out of the building.
Sylvester claims she was not involved in any rioting, theft, or destruction of any kind.
