Maddie Fitzpatrick of Cheverus is your 2024 Miss Maine Basketball.
Awarded by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches at the Anah Shrine in Bangor on Friday night, Fitzpatrick beat out finalists Caroline Hartley of Scarborough and Ellie Gay of Gorham.
The 5-foot-11, University of Maine-Orono commit led the Stags to their second Class AA state title in three years last week, beating Gay and the Rams 38-24 at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
“Ellie and Caroline are such great players, and have pushed me to work harder,” Fitzpatrick said. “There are so many different people that have helped me along the way, and taught me so many lessons that go beyond the world of sports.”
A versatile threat on both sides of the ball, Fitzpatrick led Class AA North in scoring (25.5 ppg), rebounding (11.3) and steals (4.9 spg) this regular season, and tacked on 4.4 assists per game. She surpassed the 1,000-point scoring threshold this January — the first ever Lady Stag to do so — and led Cheverus to a perfect 22-0 record this season.
Fitzpatrick was also named Maine MaxPreps High School Player of the Year earlier this week, and is the odds-on favorite to repeat as Maine Gatorade Player of the Year. She committed to UMaine — reigning America East champion — prior to her junior season.
“I’m super excited to get up there, and play under coach [Amy] Vachon,” Fitzpatrick said. “They’re great people, and a great team.”
