RUMFORD, Maine — An 8-year-old boy is dead and his younger brother and father are fighting for their lives in the hospital after a devastating head-on crash in Rumford Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after 3 p.m. police responded to the area of 1125 U.S. Route 2 for the crash.
Rumford Police say a Game Warden and a nurse were nearby and ran up to the cars to help an unresponsive 8-year-old.
He later died from his injuries.
Three other people suffered life-threatening injuries, including that boy’s father and 5-year-old brother.
The 5-year-old has since been brought to a Portland hospital, and the father is expected to be brought to a Lewiston hospital Saturday night.
The fourth person in the crash was a Rumford man driving the other car involved, he also suffered life-threatening injuries.
No charges have been announced but Rumford Police say alcohol does appear to be a factor.
