BANGOR — Kristen Sparks, MD recently joined the Consult Services team at Northern Light Acadia Hospital. In her new role, Dr. Sparks will provide high level psychiatric assessments and treatment recommendations to providers at 22 emergency departments across the State of Maine.
Dr. Sparks attended Ohio State University where she earned her medical degree as well as a master’s degree in public health. With a wide range of experience across many areas of psychiatry, she specializes in acute care psychiatry, specifically serving emergency departments and inpatient settings.
“It is a great privilege to be a psychiatrist,” says Dr. Sparks. “To me, psychiatry is about helping patients when they are most vulnerable and serving a population that is too often marginalized in our society.”
Dr. Sparks is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Acadia Hospital Consult Services provides psychiatric consultation services to 22 ED’s and 20 inpatient medical units in Maine 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. In 2022, the team offered treatment recommendations to nearly 14,000 patients throughout the state.
