BANGOR — Jay Martin of Bangor is the new grants director at the Bangor Region YMCA, one of the region’s largest non-profit organizations and the 2024 recipient of the Bangor Region Chamber’s Non-Profit of the Year award.

With an English degree from the University of Maine, Martin has worked for Washington Hancock Community Agency and United Cerebral Palsy of Maine, among others.
“As a Bangor native, the YMCA has made a big impact on our family of five boys,” said Martin . “I’m excited and honored to help advance the Y’s important mission to support children, adults and families in their lifelong quest for physical, emotional and social wellness.”
Martin’s strong history of volunteerism includes serving as board chair for UMaine’s Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, charter board chair of The Courageous Steps Project in Old Town, and fundraising leadership for Bangor’s former American Folk Festival.
“As the Y’s Grants Director, Jay will lead crucial efforts to secure support for the Y’s mission-driven programs – from childcare and school-age care to the Teen Center for at-risk teens, swim lessons for all ages, older adult programs to combat loneliness and more, and evidence-based chronic disease prevention programs,” said Dickerson.
Martin added, “The YMCA offers so many exciting opportunities for our community to engage, achieve, and inspire. I look forward to working with the Y’s generous funders to support our wide range of essential and community-centered programs.”
