A man was hospitalized with severe injuries on Thursday after firefighters pulled him from a burning mobile home in the Colonial Pines park on outer Ohio Street in Bangor.
The fire began just before 12:15 p.m., according to Chandler Corriveau, an assistant Bangor fire chief. Firefighters arrived to find a man in the burning trailer and pulled him out. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is likely in critical condition, Corriveau said.
“We gave this person the absolute best fighting chance that they could get,” he said.
The fire burned through the mobile home, leaving the support beams visible on about half of the trailer. A burned propane tank was on the lawn behind the home. Siding on a neighboring mobile home was melted in the fire, but the home should be able to be restored, Corriveau said. The Maine fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire, he added.
There were around 10 mobile homes in the Colonial Pines park at the time of the fire. The park had 34 pads with approvals to nearly double in size as of 2019, according to a real estate listing. Around that time, it was sold by a Waterville-based firm to a newly formed company.
