In reference to a Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) increase proposal, it is extremely important to pass this increase. This is because the income that someone on TANF has is no longer enough for people who need the assistance. There are many reasons that this could be the case, with one being inflation and prices soaring. It has not been a secret that prices have increased dramatically over the last several years which includes things such as rent, food, heat, and other necessities of life.
Throughout the cost-of-living increase there has not been an increase in the amount that people receive for support. People who may have already been receiving support are now receiving less money compared to in the past before this cost-of-living increase. To make up for this increase in living costs, there is an increased need to increase TANF benefits. There are situations out of people’s control who may need assistance.
We all just experienced a global pandemic where things were unpredictable and impacted every person in one way or another. People needed temporary assistance to help them through such challenging times. TANF is no different than any assistance that was needed during this time. It is temporary assistance that is provided to people who need help. While receiving assistance, the person is supposed to work part time or be pursuing job training or education. Assistance is needed to help people in a time of need, but more is needed to account for the cost-of-living crisis.
