President Joe Biden’s State of the Union was an energetic, optimistic speech touting his administration’s many accomplishments. The president appears eager and ready for a campaign and for 4 more years of governing in American families’ best interests.
The Biden administration has managed to cap the cost of insulin for seniors and to forgive student debt for millions. They propose to cap credit card and other “junk fees” and have embarked on an overdose prevention strategy that expands access to lifesaving medicines for opioid use disorder.
In spite of the administration’s outstanding accomplishments, I believe this November’s election is about our freedoms. The freedom to vote, to make your own reproductive choices, to love who you want, to not live in fear of gun violence, to breathe clean air and drink clean water and more.
Trump and MAGA Republicans no longer seem to believe in democracy and apparently think their first obligations are to give tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations and to be friendly with Valdimir Putin. They’re poised to take a wrecking ball to the alliances that have supported democracy all over the world for decades. And he’s promising to put immigrants in detention camps at a time when our economy desperately needs more workers.
November’s votes will be the most consequential you’ll ever cast. I believe only a vote for Biden and Democrats will give us the opportunity to continue our work of creating a “more perfect union”.
