A man has died in a car crash following reports he was driving the wrong way down the M62 motorway.
Police received calls shortly after 2am on Saturday that a Vauxhall Corsa was travelling westbound on the eastbound carriageway.
Officers were sent to locate the vehicle but it was found to have crashed into a VW Golf a short time later close to Scammonden Bridge, to the east of Huddersfield.
Fire crews and paramedics also attended the crash, between junctions 22 and 23, but the male driver of the Corsa was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man driving the Golf was seriously injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The motorway was closed in both directions on Saturday morning.
